WYSC shifts from Mid East

This year's World Youth Scrabble Champs is relocating from Qatar to Johor Bahru in Malaysia, where it was held in 2009.

Youth Committee chair Karen Richards announced this switch, saying it was because the chief organiser, Judith Britten, was shortly due to shift from Qatar to Oman.

The 2011 WYSC will be run from 6 to 8 December at the Zon Regency Hotel, the regular Causeway Challenge venue.

Richards says the return to Malaysia will make it easier for competitors to gain valuable practice at a number of planned South-East Asian tournaments in the preceding two weeks. These include the Princess Cup in Bangkok (for youth only), the Singapore Open and the annual Causeway Challenge, from 30 November to 4 December.

A tournament for adults, the Johor Bahru Round Robin, will be held simultaneously with WYSC and at the same venue.
