Youth RatingsMany young players (ie those under 18 at end 2006) are already included in the International Ratings - a system developed by Bob Jackman of Australia, pending a more permanent system to de devised by the Ratings sub-committee of WESPA. In order to be included in this, you need to compete in a tournament which has been declared "international". This means that fewer than 50% of players are from the host country. Most of these tournaments, so far, have occurred in Asia, or been World Scrabble Championship events. However, WESPA intends to provide more opportunities for international matches. The proposed World Youth Scrabble Championship (WYSC) will also be rated internationally. In order to access International tournaments, players may refer to the International tournament calendar on this site (still under development) OR approach their national Scrabble association. The International Causeway Challenge run in Malaysia by the Singapore Scrabble Association is a good example of such a tournament which provides an Open section (ie accessable by any player). This is not an exhaustive list of young players throughout the world. There are many others who only compete in their own countries. For instance, there are 40 players from North America who regularly compete in tournaments against adults, but none has an International rating as yet. Eventually it is hoped that the WESPA Ratings Sub-Committee will devise a means of including these players in an International system (ie by developing a conversion ratio for all countries).
Players labeled as "provisional" have not played enough Internationally rated games to qualify for an International ranking. |
