Sammy Okosagah wins Godswill Akpabio Classics


America's Sammy Okosagah took home the $12,000US first prize in Nigeria. He won the 24 game masters division with one round to spare, finishing on 17 wins +1394. Home players filled out the other top positions with Saheed Tayo second and Esan Oladokun third.

Elsewhere at the tournament Olueh Godwin romped home in the intermediate division on 20 wins +1248. Hakeem Kareem edged the veteran division on 18 wins +1086 and Osamuyime Igbinadolr (15.5-4.5 +1450) won the open division. The full standings can be found here:

The 5th Godswill Akpabio Classics event was a huge success with over 250 players taking part. His Excellency has agreed for the tournament to be held from the 27th–30th of September 2012 with the top prize increased to $15,000US. It is thought there will be a minimum of 28 games across the four days.
