UPDATE: Registration is now open scrabble.org.au/events/15WSC/register.html

WESPA and ASPA (the Australian Scrabble Players Association) would like to announce the inaugural WESPA Championship 2015 (WESPAC) to be played over 5 days from November 4-8, 2015 (Wed to Sun) in Perth, Australia.

WESPAC is an invitational event with country allocations (and some designated places) based on previous World Scrabble Championship results, but with an expanded field of about 150. First prize will be AUS$10,000 (approximately US$8,000) assuming projected attendance. WESPAC will be a 5 day tournament for all registered players, the format for the final day is yet to be decided.

On Tuesday there will be an 8 round Last Chance Qualifier, open to any player not already chosen to play in WESPAC. The top 4 to 8 players (depending on numbers) will proceed to the WESPAC. Alongside the main event, there will be a 3-day and two 1-day open tournaments for those who are not eligible to play in the Championship.

Each country should prepare a plan for a selection process (and a public web page explaining it) and have a designated contact person who will liaise with Cheah Siu Hean, the secretary of WESPA. This is a great chance to visit Australia during an exciting time of the year. Countries should start organising their selection process and keen Scrabblers everywhere should start planning their calendar.

Perth says 'WELCOME!!'
